I Notice an Absence

I find myself in an awkward spot

needing a friend

all these years I avoided

Unnecessary relationships

was pleased to be solitary

With my husband and my collections,

p~aintings, gardens, buttons, tinsel,

dog, a crowd of objects

but useless now when I need someone

who can take a walk with me

if my husband can’t

if the dog is dead.
