Jungle Fever

As restless as I am sometimes

I still resist change

I want the exact same cream in my coffee

The same scarf around my throat.

I want my husband to love me just like

He did forty years ago.

I want to go on safari with trunks of clothing

And tea sets

So I can construct my life in the middle of

The jungle and

Sit drinking herb tea

Surrounded by throngs of elephants and stilt birds

All of them

Singing for me

Because I am

An explorer who has carried my world

On my back.
