Remember when we had that catscratch fight & you slammed the door flourished with venom scuttled down the dark & never came back all night & next morning I went stark mad looking for you, drove into town with the baby in our rusty blue pickup–finally spotted you at the Memorial Day flag raising ceremony slotted side by side with that besotted woman–it was just chance happenstance she was standing next everyone said so maybe not everyone maybe just you–we didn’t do anything you swore all vexed I don’t know if I believe you–maybe you walked ten miles of blackness into town like you say & frowned around till festivities began or maybe at midnight you called her for a ride from the pay phone at the general store and she picked you up and you banged that whore all night like I suspect although I admit to having a suspicious mind.
