our family

plus a cat

squeezed onto a tiny triangle of dry land

upholstered in moss & stone

strewn with shreddings of dry brush

all that is left

when water drowns beach

one of us had a magnifying glass and made fire

sparked by sun

one of us threw flat rocks into the lake

one of us fell down and suffered scrapes

one of us recited the plot of a movie

one of us sneezed

one of us sat and watched boats go by
