After Awhile You Fade

look at me

a hungry shade of light

I blame this prison where glare is fractured

into narrow shards

where crisscrossed fragments

turn skin pale blotter

hair flour pounced and trammeled

lips blanched faint & distant

& bones cobble knob

I blame men

I blame my mother

I blame the cat

I used to say look at me

now I just squint

through prisms
